The audio drama ‘If I Can’, co-created with Palimpsest, is now available to download. The piece, for which I made the music and sound design, explores the lives and loves of William Morris and his Pre-Raphaelite inner circle.
The sinuous text by Katherine Tozer weaves together the extant writings of Morris, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, and others who inhabited Red House, into a haunting narrative poem.
All of the music for this piece takes as it’s starting point Chappell’s “Popular Music of the Olden Time”, a copy of which Morris gifted to his wife Janey. This material was then stretched, warped, details extracted and repeated, like so much decorative wallpaper.
The piece is available to listen and download in multiple formats via Bandcamp. Click the player below.
